Danny Contreras – Soulful Guitarist, Rhythm & Blues Man
Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Danny Contreras picked up the guitar at age 16 and never looked back. He honed his craft studying music at the University of Texas at El Paso before stepping onto the local scene with Dreamcatcher, a rock and blues-infused original band.
In 1990, Danny and his bandmates made the move to Austin, bringing their sound to iconic venues like Paradise Café on East 6th Street. He quickly became a fixture in the Central Texas music circuit, performing in Soulful Armadillo and Sugarwall, alongside his twin brother and musical partner, Dave Contreras.
Rooted in rhythm and blues, Danny’s playing is deeply expressive—soulful, steady, and with guitar hooks steeped in feeling. His passion for music has led to lasting collaborations with gifted songwriters and musicians, and a community of friends built on groove and heart.
